The Fortune Teller Miracle Fish is a children’s toy that curls in the palm to make movements that predict one’s fortune. The fish contains sodium polyacrylate, a kind of salt adaptation, that bonds with water. When the hand touches it, the moisture in the hand reacts with the fish to make it appear as if it’s moving. Inspired by the playfulness of youth, Fortune reacts to the use of alcohol to create the patina.
"Garon employs decaying natural artifacts primarily as symbols of humanity's fragility. But her contrasts of hard and soft intrigue the eye as well as the mind." -Mark Jenkins, The Washington Post
